How to Create TOC Template

Table of Contents (TOC) templates are MS Word documents that have table of content field and other relate information that user needs to show on the page.

There are a few ways you can add table of content field to a document. The important step is to make sure that you include the "Table Entry Fields" entries option when selected.

How to create TOC template in MS Office 2010 on Windows 7

  1. Create new MS Word document.
  2. Go to References tab.
  3. Click on Table of Contents.
  4. Select “Insert Table of Contents…” menu

  1. In "Table on Content Dialog Box" select tab leaders, general format, and specify how many levels should be shown

  1. Click on “Option…” button, check “Table Entry Fields” check box and click Ok

  1. In our example, we have entered some text and then followed the above instructions to add a table of content field in to our document. Here is how it looks finally:

  1. Save the document that you have created. In Step 3 example we have used “Table Of Contents Template A.docx” name.

 

How to create TOC template in MS Office 2007 on Vista

  1. Create new MS Word document.
  2. Go to References tab.
  3. Click on Table of Contents.
  4. Select “Insert Table of Contents…” menu

How to create TOC template in MS Office 2003 on Windows XP

 

  1. Create new MS Word document.
  2. Click “Insert” menu.
  3. Select “Filed…” menu

  1. In the "Field Dialog" window navigate to a TOC field name and click “Table of Contents…” button

Note: The Budget In Brief application will populate TOC automatically. MS Work 2003 is not so much different from later versions, and if you would like to update TOC it can be done the same way by clicking on TOC field and then on “Update Field” menu.
